The problem

Drawing freehand from a reference is hard. The proportions slip, the face comes out crooked, and the sketch ends up in the bin. Been there, done that.

That's why we developed AR Draw - put your phone above the paper, pick an image, and trace it through the camera. Adjust the opacity, zoom in for details, or turn a photo into line art first.

Perfect for artists, students, kids, and anyone learning to draw.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best app to trace an image onto paper?

AR Draw is a free app for iOS and Android. It shows any image on top of your paper through the camera, so you can trace it by hand with your own pencil. More than 50,000 people already draw this way.

How does AR drawing work?

Put your phone on a stand or a glass above the paper and pick an image. The camera shows your paper with the image laid over it, so you watch the screen and follow the lines with your pencil.

Can I trace my own photos?

Yes. Choose any photo from your gallery, or start with one of the ready-made drawings in the app: anime, animals, portraits, fairytales, and simple sketches for beginners.

Can I see my own lines through the image?

Yes. Lower the opacity and you see both the image and the lines you've already drawn, so you always know where you are.

Can I turn a photo into line art?

Yes. The tracing slider turns any photo into clean outlines, which are much easier to follow than a full photo.

Is AR Draw free?

The app is free to download and try. There's an optional paid upgrade if you want to unlock the full set of features.

What do I need to start drawing?

Just your phone, a sheet of paper, and a pencil. A phone stand or a glass helps keep the phone steady above the paper while you draw.

What devices does AR Draw work on?

It's on both Android and iOS. You can get it on Google Play or the App Store.
